2025 Constitutional Competence Category #2:  First and Second Amendments

2025 bills reviewed for this category:

All bills required an “Aye” vote.

FIRST AMENDMENT

United States Constitution, Amendment 1
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

SF0077 Compelled speech is not free speech.
Required an “Aye” vote.  This bill prohibits the state and its political subdivisions from requiring the use of preferred pronouns.  Requiring or compelling a person to say anything they do not believe is tyrannical and the exact opposite of  free speech.  Nations or states, such as China or Russia, that require certain speech of their citizens have historically been controlled by communist governments.
