Darin McCann was elected in 2024 as Representative to House District 48 in Sweetwater County. He defeated incumbent Clark Stith in the Republican Primary.
He is up for reelection in 2026.
McCann criticized the state’s financial management, pointing out the lack of transparency and outdated auditing practices. He highlighted that without a comprehensive audit since 1989, it’s difficult to effectively plan or understand how taxpayer funds are being used.
“First of all, it’s hard to do any financial planning let alone long-term planning if you don’t know where the money goes,” McCann said.
He expressed concern over the state’s substantial rainy-day fund and the confusion about how funds are allocated, suggesting that the current system is inadequate for proper financial oversight.
